Short story, my landlord is selling his daily which happens to be a Renault Avantime V6 and I'm a little bit tempted I'll admit. But I know very little about them. Are they on PH's good list?
The cambelt will need doing soon, is a PITA on these or fairly straight forward?
There also don't seem to be many of them for sale, in good condition what should these be going for?
Cheers

Please explain why these are good - I'm surpised they are being recommended just by the looks of them on google.
Will it not rust in seconds and have lots of electrical gremlins?
People on PH recommending a French car? You live and learn everyday here!

I would, in a heartbeat. There's something about them that screams out for a good lowering kit. Rare as footballers morals, as well, I don't think I've seen one on the road!

Coincidentally I saw my 1st ever Avantime on the road today, I'm sure it was an 02 plate but didn't look 9 years old - blue and silver exterior combo, looked very concept-car like, huge with massive doors (its only a 2 door isn't it?), its one of the few French cars I like.

Yes all Renaults are awful and will fall to bits. All of them. Every single one.

There was a thread on these a few months ago. Do a search

Two door yes, but it's got some clever type of hinge so they can open wide but not bash into the car next to you.OP... Avantime is cool, I'd like to drive one. Give it a go, can't hurt.

Cant quite see the point in these, what do they actually offer over any other car apart from being rare?
You could get a proper car for the same money!

It's completely mental, that's what. It's a 5 seat Espace with two doors. What's not to like?Sunday 13th February 2011

It's completely mental, that's what. It's a 5 seat Espace with two doors. What's not to like?Because the only reason you buy an Espace is for the practicality, so without that it becomes the most pointless car ever made. If VAG had built it then everyone would be crying bloody murder! I dont mean to sound like a party pooper. I applaud the fact that such a nutty car exists. But to recommend someones pays actual money for one....!!!

I like them, they're great big good looking waftmobiles with 4 seats and funky doors, with frameless glass if I remember rightly, so the whole side windows can wind down. They're just cool .
Oh and with the two colour bodywork they look a bit like a giant smart car .

I owned a v6 auto for several years and managed to cover over 50,000 miles with costs little more than the routine servicing. It never broke down. I sold it 18 months ago and really miss it. It's so individual, although looks are definitely love it or hate it. Fuel costs won't be cheap - average mpg about 24. V6 sounds great when fully revved up and acceleration not bad at all, but handling and ride have a a lot to be desired. Rear passenger space is quite limited. A cambelt change will not be cheap!

I think being in that Top Gear challenge was probably the best marketing Renault could have asked for...
